What is the Greek Gift Sacrifice?

How It Works — Step by Step
The Classic Position: Bxh7+!
A French Classical structure: the e5-pawn has driven the knight from f6, h7 is defended only by the king, the bishop on d3 and knight on f3 point at the kingside, and the f4-pawn covers g5. Every condition is met — Bxh7+! wins.
After Kxh7: Ng5+ follows
The king has taken the bishop, and Ng5+ attacks it while clearing the d1-h5 diagonal for the queen. Note the f4-pawn: it guards g5, so ...Qxg5 simply loses the queen to fxg5.
Qh5 — The Mating Net
After ...Kg8, the queen swings to h5 threatening Qh7#. The only way to avert mate is to give the queen back with ...Qxg5, when fxg5 leaves White decisively ahead in material and attack.
Declining the Sacrifice
What if Black declines with ...Kh8 instead of taking? White simply keeps the extra pawn and continues the attack with Ng5 — the bishop on h7 cannot even be trapped. Declining loses material without dodging the danger.
